digital photo enter

Posted by tharvan on July 1, 2004

I made the move. Although a few months ago I was still against it (you see I am like that: I react stupidly when what I know and love starts to change). After some researching I bought a Sony DSC-V1 (5mp 4x optical 5x digital). Read a review here. I think she is pretty:

Still no personal opinion, only had it for less than 24h and its my first digital. I have to adopt to their ways. Things look interesting, but I wasn’t able to access it from GNU/Linux, which kind of upsets me. I will follow up with it… (July 4th, 2004: of course it works with GNU/Linux. It mounts just fine, don’t know why didn’t work the first time)

l’impalsion spontanee…

Posted by tharvan on November 9, 2003

The original text, which I am quoting here, is, of course, in French but for making editing easier I omitted French punctuation entirely (forgive me). I am not attempting any translation, which would most probably be awful. But the “french” of it are rather obvious:

“Photographier et dessiner”
- mise en parallele -

La photographie est, pour moi, l’impulsion spontanee d’une attention visuelle perpetuelle, qui saisit l’instant et son eternite.

Le dessin, lui, par sa graphologie elabore ce que notre consience a saisi de cet instant.

La photo est une action immediate; la dessin une meditation.

Henri Cartier-Bresson, 27-4-1992

The most straightforward dealing of the primeval confrontation between photography and drawing, from a master that has done both.
